About the Owner

My name is Vickie O’Donnell and I am the owner of South Jersey Lice Lady, LLC. I am a Registered Nurse and I started this company after my own children had an exposure to head lice. I had no idea what to do and I seriously freaked out! I used a popular over-the-counter treatment on my kids and they had a horrible reaction to the product. I even sprayed the dogs with lice products. There were lots of tears and crying from them and me! This started my desire to find alternative and homeopathic lice treatment methods. Through my research I found a CDC lice expert and she taught me everything there was to know about these creepy little bugs. I trained at a nonprofit clinic and have been successfully helping families since 2011. We service Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties. Treatments are provided in our beautiful center in Washington Township or in your home. We make house calls in an unmarked discreet vehicle. Our goal is to educate, treat and calm the whole family. This year in the United States there will be 6 – 12 million children between the ages of 3 & 11 years old who will contract head lice. Most of these cases will go unreported to the school nurse due to the negative stigmatization associated with head lice. Parents will miss work, children will miss school and for sure there will be some tears along the way. Attempting to treat your child’s head lice can lead to weeks of frustration. Head lice have evolved over the years and are often resistant to many of the over-the-counter products sold today. Finding this out will no doubt be paired with many missed days of work and school. Families will fall victim to a vicious cycle of repeated treatments and failure. When you call a professional you have expertise and experience on your side from the very beginning. Your family will be educated, treated and guided through the post care instructions to ensure no chance of re-infestation occurring. This saves you time, money and often your sanity.

Treating head lice correctly is tedious and time-consuming. The only true method is complete nit removal utilizing a strand-by-strand approach. Depending on hair length and infestation level this can take 1-2 hours per person. When you book your appointment we will discuss your specific circumstances and give you a general idea of how long it will take. In general, a family of 4 is booked for a 2-3 hour appointment. This again is dependent on hair length and the level of infestation.

Some insurance companies will cover lice removal. It is best to call your insurance carrier and inquire. We are registered with the Camden County and Gloucester County Division of Child Protection and Permanency office for reimbursement of foster care client treatments. Services must be pre-approved prior to your appointment. Medicaid absolutely does not cover lice treatments. We understand this creates a financial barrier for some of our clients.  We will work with Medicaid recipients to offer pay pal credit and other unique payment arrangements. Our goal is to make our services accessible to everyone regardless of financial barriers. If you are enrolled in a Flexible Spending Account or Health Care Spending account, we will provide you with an itemized bill and icd-10 coded invoice. We accept HSA and Flexible Spending credit cards for payment.

Upon booking your appointment we will send you a cleaning guide for your home and a guide to head lice. Read over this information prior to your arrival. Please make sure hair is clean and detangled hair. Please make every effort to have all members of your household present. We offer FREE head checks for up to 4 family members. Missing one person can lead to becoming re-infested with lice. Daily babysitters and family members who spend a lot of time in your home should be checked.

Head lice do not live off the head. They need to be near their food source (your blood) to feed every few hours. They are not living in the carpet or behind the bed like a bed bug. Once off the head, lice quickly become dehydrated. Within 12 hours of not feeding head lice will be so dehydrated they will struggle to move about. Within 24-48 hours they will die. Pets can not transmit head lice.
